Positive Behaviour Management – for a Safe and Supportive School

At Boyanup Primary School, we foster positive behaviour management by working with students, families, and staff as a whole school community. This is so our management is consistent and empowering, creating a safe and supportive learning environment for all students – enabling academic success, social and personal achievement.

At Boyanup Primary School we follow the Positive Behaviour Strategies (PBS) approach to behaviour management. We have clearly agreed behaviour expectations which are explicitly taught to all students from Kindergarten to year 6. They are:

At Boyanup Primary School, the Good Standing Strategy supports our values of Endeavour, Integrity and Achievement. ‘Good Standing’ is reinforced by our Positive Behaviour Support Program which explicitly reinforces and teaches being an Active Learner; being Responsible; being Caring & Safe and being Respectful.

As a school team we work collectively towards behaviour rewards which are fun and interesting for the students. Students from Years 1-6 are given ‘Bee tickets’ for consistently demonstrating our behaviour expectations through the week. These Bee tickets are then collated and the amount totalled to move towards each of our 5-week reward targets.

Individual students can earn an individual reward if their Bee ticket is pulled out by a student councillor at our whole school Monday morning meetings.

Students must have their Good Standing to be able to participate in these special rewards.

As experienced educators we know that at times some students can find it hard to follow behaviour expectations, however we are committed to an environment for learning where all feel safe, respected and supported.

If your child has found it challenging to follow the behaviour expectations of the school you will be contacted and if this is something which becomes a pattern a meeting will be arranged to discuss how we can work together to create a behaviour plan to help them regain their Good Standing.

School staff work with Education Department Behaviour and Engagement specialists though the School of Special Educational Needs; Behaviour and Engagement as required.
