School History – About Our School

School History

Boyanup Primary School is situated in the rural agricultural town of Boyanup, approx. 20km south of Bunbury and within the Shire of Capel.

The name Boyanup is said to mean ‘place of quartz’ from the Noongar words ‘up’ which means place of and ‘Boya’ meaning rock or stone. Quartz was collected near to the river to create spears and sharp tools.

Nestled along the banks of the Preston River, the school’s grounds are beautifully sculpted to provide an environment that is calm, relaxing and stimulating for our students.

The original school was established in 1901, later being relocated to its current site in 1971.  The school caters for students from Kindergarten to Year Six.

Our school has a welcoming and positive atmosphere which immediately creates a sense of belonging.

Boyanup Primary School provides an excellent education in a caring and supportive environment.

The school curriculum and programs offered support the development of the academic, social, emotional and physical aspects of the whole child, working collaboratively with our families, the community and local services to help our children reach their full potential.

The students are encouraged to be independent learners, with clear expectations and boundaries and are encouraged to be critical and reflective learners.

The school staff works as a team with an expectation of commitment to improving outcomes for children and working within the school ethos. Children are encouraged and guided to make decisions and be accountable for their choices.

We offer a broad specialist curriculum, including Visual Arts, Music, Instrumental Music through IMSS, Physical Education, Science and Technologies (Design and Digital).

Boyanup Primary School has well maintained modern facilities including a purpose-built early childhood facility, a primary block consisting of refurbished classrooms that surround a large multipurpose central area, administration block, well-resourced library, dedicated specialist Art Studio/Science Lab, Music/Drama Room.

The school is equipped with large playgrounds, a basketball court, oval, grassed playing areas, and an under-cover area.

The school curriculum is also complemented by our community garden.

Connecting our families with the school community, promoting a sense of shared responsibility and building everyone’s capacity to work together is vital to ensure that our students have the best chance of realising their social and academic potential.

The school employs an integrated approach to bring together community services and agencies to support our families and to achieve our school goals. Our aim is to support families to address any significant gaps in the students’ health and social & academic skills through opportunities for early intervention.

We look forward to showing you around.
