Specialist Subjects – to engage our students

At Boyanup Primary School, our specialist subjects provide students with exciting opportunities to explore creativity, critical thinking, and physical development. Through engaging programs in Visual Arts, Music, Science, Physical Education, and Technologies, we empower students to develop essential skills while fostering a love for learning and personal growth.

A vibrant and exciting Visual Arts program is provided for all students from Year 1 to Year 6. Boyanup Primary has a fully equipped art room, enabling our Visual Arts teacher to conduct a program where our students learn skills and processes to create their magnificent artworks.

The Visual Arts program encourages our students to be creative and to develop their problem-solving skills using a variety of expressive forms such as:

  • drawing
  • painting
  • papercraft
  • printmaking
  • sculpture
  • ceramics
  • textiles
  • digital technologies

Many artworks are on display around our school.

Specialist subjects at our school foster creativity and achievement. Recently, students excelled in Visual Arts, winning a Peace Poster competition and securing a feature in the 2025 Zonta calendar.

All classes from Year 1 to Year 6 engage in a Music program.
Research demonstrates that there are multiple benefits of an arts-rich education from an early age. Learning to, creating and performing Music helps us communicate, collaborate and develop our creativity. It also helps our brain make connections that support our learning in other areas, such as literacy and numeracy.
Music helps us express and engage with our emotions allowing us to make sense of the world around us.

Science teaching and learning supports students to become confident and involved learners who are curious about their world.

Science teaching at Boyanup Primary School uses real world contexts and authentic learning through inquiry, problem solving, critical analysis and creative thinking.

All classes from Year 1 to Year 6 engage in the Science specialist program.

It teaches students to improve their cooperative and sporting skills and provides opportunities for teamwork.

In-term Swimming Lessons compliment the daily fitness and school physical education programs.

In addition, we organise visits from state sporting ambassadors conducting workshops to promote mental and physical health.

Boyanup competes in the annual interschool Wattle Winter Team Sports, Interschool Cross Country and Interschool Athletics Carnivals.

We host our own school carnival annually. The school has 2 House Factions or Houses. Students may wear their team shirts on days they have their Physical Education lesson and are expected to wear their team shirt for all sporting carnivals. Redgum wear red shirts and are named after the beautiful local redgum trees, Preston wear blue shirts and are named after the river which flows at the end of our oval.
